Urban Village Group starts multi-million pound canalside care home construction

Construction of a multi-million pound canalside care home development in Blackburn is underway.

Urban Village Group has started work on its Eleanor Street senior living scheme, which will have 70 en-suite bedrooms and seven independent living apartments.

Main contractor LNC Developments has been appointed to deliver the purpose-built care home on behalf of Urban Village Healthcare on the waterside site. It is expected to reach practical completion in Q1 2024. The development will feature four floors, each with its own external terrace taking advantage of views overlooking the canal and conservation area and to the town centre beyond. Once complete, it will be let to Bracebridge Care Group for a minimum of 25 years.

Urban Village Group chief executive Nick Sellman said: “We are very excited to announce that we have started work on our Eleanor Street development.  We are very grateful to Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council for its support.”

Bracebridge Care Group chief operating officer Samantha Crawley said: “The care home we are creating in this community brings our philosophy of specialist care together with the most up-to-date technology. Delivering an enabling environment, supported by the best people in the sector, means we create a lived experience which people are proud to be part of.

“In 2024 the doors will open to our care home, and we look forward to showing local residents and families everything we and our development teams at Urban Village Healthcare have created. We know that people will be impressed by the design coupled with exceptional quality.

“This development forms part of our mission to offer exceptional senior living provision in this country and will be a fantastic place for the people in the region. As people and populations grow older, the level of disability and dependency increases and impacts enormously on the demand for modern, forward thinking care services. Urban Village Healthcare is determined to help meet this demand through Bracebridge Healthcare Group.”

The new care home will feature communal spaces including a lounge, hairdressers and a gym, with associated parking and gardens. The site backs on to the Leeds Liverpool Canal offering people who live there excellent views and a community feel. All the town centre amenities are within walking distance which we know is important to older people today.
